Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) – Terminal 2

New Passenger Terminal

As the Airport’s first new terminal in 20 years, Terminal 2 is also distinguished as the world’s first major airport with a wood truss structure. Serving the largest research park in North America, the rolling roof of Terminal 2 reflects the Piedmont hills while within the daylit interior and long-span lenticular trusses create column-free spaces that offer efficiency and flexibility for the building. Terminal 2 received international recognition honored as the world’s best in “Notable Regional Airport Development” in Passenger Terminal World.

Apple Designs developed a comprehensive signage system for the 36-gate, 920,000 SF Terminal 2. The sign system was integrated with various architectural elements to provide a unified appearance and seamless passenger experience. The sign system included both static and dynamic components using state-of-the-art technology that matches the capabilities of the airport’s CUTE system for managing airline ticketing and gate areas.

Within the terminal, Apple Designs created a highly visible branded space for passengers to meet. The “Meeting Place” in the ticketing hall encouraged patrons to wait for their arriving party while enjoying a separate seating area and other airport amenities.
